Piracy Warfare - U-85 ... The first U-boat sunk during World War II

Piracy Warfare l U-85 l U-85 Background Briefing l DD-147 Roper Briefing

Encounter of the USS Roper and the German U-85
Until April, 1942 the east coast U-boat war was a howling success as viewed through the German eyes and a deadly and frustrating exercise to the men of the merchant marine and the U.S. Navy.  Ships were being sunk on an almost daily basis, while the brave sailors who manned them suffered horribly and died anonymously.  Then came the night of April 13-14, 1942 and the U-85's time of reckoning!

Take Command of the U.S.S. Roper in the first successful U-boat encounter of World War 11.
